John Liep's long awaited monograph on Rossel Island in Papua New Guinea analyzes an alternative monetary system. Liep studied the indigenous shell money for two years. The money is ranked in twenty classes. It is not a mean of market exchange but measure value in terms of status difference.The book advances the understanding of ranked exchange and of the origin of money as a token of distinction and power.

On the 25th September 2009 Aarhus University inaugurated an exhibition that presents a very wide spectrum of the decorative works of visual artist Erik A. Frandsen. In this way, the University has extended even further the great number of significant works of art that students and staff can enjoy on a daily basis on campus. This book is not only a presentation of Erik A. Frandsen's decorative art, but is also a celebration of the fact that the University is home to such artistic excellence.

Damascus, capital of the Ottoman province in Syria and one of the most important centres of the classical Muslim World, underwent some of the same developments in the 19th century as other urban centres in the Mediterranean area and beyond. In the course of the industrial revolution in Europe and the radical expansion of a worldwide network of traffic and communication, new ideas, techniques, material goods and architectural forms spread and challenged locally established patterns of urban and social organisation. Yet Damascus never became a "European city", but modernised in its own, unique ways.
